Coway makes a single-room purifier, the AP-1512HH, and a large-room one, the Airmega 400. They are not the same machine at two prices. They are built for different rooms. Here is which one fits yours, using Coway's own figures. We do not test products.

The AP-1512HH, also sold as the Airmega Mighty, is the single-room model. Coway rates it for 361 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour and lists it at 24 dB(A) on its lowest setting. It has a pre-filter, an odor filter and a HEPA filter, plus an ionizer you can switch off. Auto mode changes the fan speed when the dust sensor sees more particles.

The Airmega 400 is the big one. Coway lists a smoke CADR of 328 and rates it for 1,560 sq ft at two air changes an hour, or 3,120 sq ft at one. It has a washable pre-filter and a Max2 filter set that combines activated carbon and True HEPA. Coway says the Max2 set lasts one year.

Go by room size. Coway rates the AP-1512HH for 361 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour, which suits a bedroom or office. It rates the Airmega 400 for 1,560 sq ft at two air changes an hour, which suits an open floor plan. Compare them at the same rate: at two air changes an hour, the AP-1512HH is rated for 874 sq ft.

How often do I change Coway filters?+

By Coway's schedule, the AP-1512HH HEPA filter lasts one year and its odor filter lasts six months. The Airmega 400 uses a Max2 set that lasts one year.

Does the AP-1512HH have an ionizer?+

Yes. You can switch it off. The EPA says that when inhaled, ozone can damage the lungs, so check any ionizer setting before you buy.

Coway AP-1512HH or Levoit Core 300?+

The Coway has more CADR (246 for dust against 143 CFM) and a bigger rated room (361 sq ft against 222 sq ft). The Levoit is smaller and lighter and has no ionizer. Both list 24 dB at their lowest setting.
